This coin = Medusa 1 (Luke Scholing, Clearwater, FL; 31 May 1996), Lot 58. According to Richard Witschonke's annotated copy of Medusa 1 (titled "Mail Bid Sale 1," but actually a Buy-Bid Sale), he placed the order for this coin with Luke Scholing on 29 April 1996. The specimen from the RBW sale (NAC 63, 530 = RBW 1774) was far superior, so perhaps he sold this coin is a duplicate long before the NAC sales.
(Oddly, the NAC 63 specimen had been sold at NAC 9 [Lot 763] on 16 April. Did RBW miss that one and buy it at a later date, or did he buy two of these rare coins within the space of two weeks?)
