☥Alessandro Magnaguti belonged to the famous noble family of Mantua – The House of Gonzaga. His collection of Greek coins included seventeen of these Syracusan electrum coins, lots 360 – 376.

Attribution is incorrect. This coin was not issued by Ap. Claudius Pulcher but by M. Tullius Cicero during his tenure as proconsul in Cilicia 51-50 BC. This is the third known example of the type and currently the only coin issued by Cicero in private hands.

This attribution to the Ostrogoths in Sirmium is pure speculation. There is no evidence for a gold issue under the Ostrogoths in Sirmium.

The coin has been misattributed to Corrado I. Correct would be Corrado II (Corradino) 1254-1258

I have an example of this coin and the planchet is brass.

Apparently, there are at least three different reverse legends for this issue. The correct reverse legend for this specimen is: LIA KA KOL AVPH.

Hammered for 14 EUR in Bucaphalus auction and realized some months later 4.400 CHF !? Who can explain what makes this coin so special?
