Also = Ex J.S. Wilkinson Collection, Joel Malter Auction 49 (15 Nov 1992), Lot 549. (Lockett provenance noted by Malter, but Pozzi.) It is, of course, worth noting that the sale has been nicknamed "mini-Pozzi."

A such rare and important coin like this without any pedigree?.. of course not! Here it is:
= ex Santamaria sale 24th january 1938, lot 224. From the italian collection of Pietro Gariazzo (Turin) / Roberto Venturi Ginori (Florence). Congratulation to the new owner!

Correction: this not the coin illustrated in Ophthalmologia XIII.9. The illustrated coin was CNG EA 531 part 1 (25 Jan 2023), 78 [ex CNR XXV (Summer 2000), 22].

This is a fake, check forgerynetwork.com for the same obverse dies paired with multiple reverse dies. Pulled from CNG auction 112 lot 306. I was offered this coin by a dealer in Green Bay WI on 1/25/2023.

I believe it should be RPC I 4317 - NOT 4217.

This piece is almost certainly a modern forgery. It is a "die" (or in this case mold) match, except for the last digit of the date being altered, to known numismatic forgeries dated 1812, 1813 and 1814 (1813 being the commonly appearing). There are multiple identifying markers which clearly show this, and of course it would be practically impossible for (4) years of genuine coinage to been produced from a single mold.

Also note that this piece appears to be the ONLY appearance of an "1811" cast SUD 8R in searchable online numismatic auction archives spanning the last 12+ years. I have seen (2) other pieces from eBay, both mold matches to this specimen... and one was explicitly IDed as a modern fake.
