It seems that this issue was mis-attributed to the city of Tyndaris by RPC. That attribution was always highly questionable, which is documented in the RPC notes for this issue. New evidence has come to light. In a recent European auction, an example of this type has clear obverse legends. It reads: "AVGVSTVS ACRAG" (or similar). This is a reference to the city of Akragas/Agrigentum. Perhaps a better way to classify this type is "Sicily, Uncertain mint (Agrigentum?)".

And yet facts show that the past attribution to Ptolemy IV does not hold up. Read the book, not Hoover's "complete pseudo-science" review. Facts do matter. Cleopatra VII attribution is supported by lack of central dimples, weight standards, relationship with similar coins, etc. Matt Kreuzer
